Hello, my name is Carmen. I’m a physiotherapist serving the Salta, Sibaya, Umdloti and Durban North communities. I qualified with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Pretoria in 2002, and since then I’ve been helping people move better, live pain-free and return to the activities they love.
After completing my community service year at Ngwelezane Hospital in Zululand, I worked at Milnerton Mediclinic in Cape Town before spending time in the UK, gaining experience in orthopaedics, ergonomics, paediatrics and learning difficulties. In 2007, I returned to South Africa and established my practice in Durban, where I’ve continued to grow and refine my approach ever since, including coaching and pain neuroscience.
Over the years, I’ve developed a personal and comprehensive way of working with every patient who walks through my door. Each session starts with a detailed movement assessment so I can uncover the root cause of pain, not just treat the symptoms. My best tools are my hands, my skills of observation and my ability to transfer knowledge to you. I use techniques such as movement modification, exercise prescription, education and when needed, dry needling, massage, and joint mobilisation.
Having experienced pain myself, I understand that everyone’s journey to recovery is unique. Some people respond best to gentle treatment, others to firmer techniques – I always adapt to the person in front of me. Communication and understanding are at the heart of every session, because my goal is not only to ease your pain, but to empower you to stay active and confident in your body.
Outside of work, I’m happiest outdoors, running, mountain biking, stand-up paddling, playing golf and spending time with my husband and son. I try to live what I teach: movement for life.
I proudly serve clients of all ages, from corporate professionals and busy parents to scholars, retirees and sports enthusiasts. My mission goes beyond treating pain: I see the person behind the pain.
